Marketing On A Budget

For my next class during the Tower 28 Clean Beauty Summer School program, we had the pleasure of hearing from Amy Liu, the founder of Tower 28. The session was divided into two insightful parts. The first focused on creating a compelling brand story that resonates and feels relatable. The second part was all about keeping it cheap and cheerful – finding creative, low-cost ways to spread the word, leveraging connections, and encouraging others to tell your story.
Throughout my journey with Samreen’s Vanity, I've faced my share of marketing challenges. Initially, I leaned heavily on product seeding – creating the products and using my influencer network to get them into the right hands. This helped to build early momentum and get the brand name out there. Then, I got a bit too fancy with my marketing efforts (not sure why!). I hired an agency for paid media, placed advertising dollars, and tried email marketing with small agencies. It didn’t yield the results I’d hoped for.
So, I took a step back and realized I needed to address some basics first. Instead of throwing money at marketing, I focused on building a solid team. Hiring talented individuals, rather than agencies, has been a game-changer. This supportive foundation has been essential in moving forward.
Next, I revisited the core of my brand. I realized that the brand I had envisioned wasn't exactly what was being represented on paper or the website. It was time for a makeover – a do-over – to create the brand my heart and head intended.
So, we’re going to rebrand.
Once we complete this essential work, I’m confident that we’ll unleash an incredible brand to the world. This journey has taught me the value of humility, humor, and hard work, and I can’t wait to share the next chapter with you.
Xo, Samreen
